‘Internal Security Review’
The scientific journal published by the Internal Security Agency (ABW) – special service, which is responsible for, among other things, the internal security of the state in the areas of detecting and countering hostile activities by foreign states and organisations, protecting state secrets and safeguarding strategic economic interests of Poland. The scope of the Agency’s activities enables a unique combination of two perspectives within the pages of the ‘Internal Security Review’ – scientific and practical knowledge, drawn, among other things, from the experiences of uniformed service officers. It is worth noting that the ABW is the only special service to publish a scientific journal. Due to the specific nature of the Publisher, the journal is subject to additional formal restrictions.
For 17 years without interruption, the journal has served as a platform for the exchange of knowledge in the fields of security studies, political science, public administration, economics, international relations and technical sciences. The ‘Internal Security Review’ is one of the few academic journals on the Polish publishing market dedicated to this subject. Its aim is to facilitate understanding of the problems and threats of the modern world, as well as the challenges facing those responsible for the national security. This is of great importance for building the resilience of our state. The journal emphasises the topicality of the issues addressed, which relate to contemporary security challenges and threats, both in the physical environment and in the cyberspace.
The journal’s mission defines the profile of its contributors – they include not only academics, but also experts in the fields related to security, including officers from Poland’s uniformed services. One of the journal’s priorities, which forms part of the strategy for the development of Polish academic staff, is to support early-career researchers by enabling them to publish the articles.
The journal is seeking to raise its profile within the international scientific community. Over the last 3 years it has been indexed in databases: CEEOL, ERIH PLUS and DOAJ. All the materials published in the ‘Internal Security Review’ are translated into English. Thanks to this, it reaches a wide audience, including abroad.
The print version of the journal is distributed, among others, to libraries at training centres operating within state institutions and to higher education institutions offering courses in internal security-related subjects, as well as to state and local government bodies. The electronic version is available via open access.

SCOPE
The issue of the national security in the broadest sense: analyses of the current and projected state of security from the national and international perspectives, legal issues, analyses of the activities of institutions and organisations responsible for safeguarding the constitutional order of the state.
Since 2024, the journal has featured the ‘Varia’ section, in which articles that are not strictly academic papers are published. This enables practitioners to present their experience and opinions.

PUBLISHING POLICY
The journal ensures transparency in the publishing process and quality control of metadata. Implemented standards for scholarly publishing:

The journal also ensures a high standard of linguistic accuracy. Published texts undergo careful editing and proofreading.
DEVELOPMENT PLANS
Expanding international cooperation within the journal’s Scientific Council. Preparing the journal for initial assessment by priority scientific databases, among others SCOPUS.
